In 2013, 80 LensCrafters associates and Independent doctors volunteered with OneSight to provide quality vision care to the Cheyenne River Sioux in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. These associates saw firsthand the transformative power of filling a need for comprehensive eye exams and prescription glasses, even here in the United States.
Donate nowVolunteers at the Santa Ana, Ca Vision Van Clinic offered more than good vision to their last clinic patient. Ruth Agatep, LensCrafters GM/clinic coordinator, shares the story of Emanuel Oropeza, Community Day School student: "The techs were wrapping up. When they saw everyone else was gone, they invited Emanuel into the lab to create his lenses. He enjoyed the process so much! His mom was waiting outside. I had her peek into the lab. When Emanuel exited the lab, his mom clapped and cheered for him, saying, 'Hopefully you've inspired him to be a doctor'. Emanuel received more than the gift of sight; he now has a potential career goal!"
Donate nowThe chance to improve lives, one pair of eyes at a time, is what draws volunteers to OneSight. Over five days, outside of Mexico City, LensCrafters and OneSight helped over 2,700 people of all ages get the vision care they needed. Many were elderly folks who’d never had an eye exam. The joy of seeing clearly brought huge smiles. Crys Brown, a LensCrafters optician for over a decade, and an 8-time volunteer, was part of the Cuernavaca clinic team. For Crys, this trip meant more than ever. She got to fulfil her mom’s final wish, and see with her own eyes what a difference accessible vision care makes.
Donate nowThanks to the OneSight Vision Center at Oyler School in Cincinnati, thousands of public school students and their families no longer have to make the hard choice between basic necessities and vision care. Since its debut in fall of 2012, the vision center has provided quality eye care to more than 30,000 students in Cincinnati. Seeing clearly gives people, especially children, more control over their own lives. This is why sustainable vision care matters.
Donate nowAround the world, 733 million people suffer from vision loss. Of those, about 563 million can have their sight restored with an eye exam and a pair of glasses. It's that simple. Many of those who suffer are children, who without glasses, can't learn and thrive. That's why LensCrafters and OneSight are committed to bringing sustainable vision to those who need it most. Our recent Atlanta clinic brought together 43 LensCrafters associates and independent doctors who worked tirelessly to help kids get the vision care they've never had.
Donate nowNearly 40 percent of people in New York City live below the poverty line, resulting in many families having to forego good vision care to purchase groceries and keep the lights on. Using the foundation created by the OneSight Vision Center at Oyler School in Cincinnati, a year-round vision care clinic will open its doors in New York City at PS 188 in Brooklyn's Coney Island in 2014, followed by another clinic in PS 18 in the Bronx. Sustainable clinics like this one are just one of the many examples of OneSight activities that are supported by donations from LensCrafters customers and associates.
Donate nowAn incredible need brought OneSight to The Gambia, where there was once only one optometrist to serve 1.8 million people. In 2013, OneSight changed all that when it opened its first sustainable vision center in Farafenni, The Gambia, providing the community access to comprehensive eye exams and affordable glasses. Since its debut, the sustainable vision center's staff has seen almost 3,000 patients with an average of 107 patients seen per week.
Donate nowFor 13 days in October 2013, a team of volunteers helped provide hope and sight to 5,000 South Africans during an OneSight Vision Clinic. In KwaZulu-Natal, there is only one optometrist per 26,000 people. During OneSight's time in South Africa, more than 5,000 South Africans were given access to quality vision care and quality eyewear.
Donate nowDoctor Dana Kindberg has experienced first-hand what sight does for people. Beginning as an associate in a LensCrafters retail store, Dr. Kindberg was inspired to go to optometry school after participating in OneSight Clinics around the world. Later, while volunteering at a Vision Clinic in Thailand, Dr. Kindberg was able to fulfil her mother's last wish: using her glasses to help someone else see. She gave her glasses to Ming, a little girl who needed help seeing in school.
Donate nowIn China's rural regions, Stanford University's Rural Education Action Program (REAP) and OneSight are studying how access to prescription glasses can improve academic life for rural Chinese students, fewer than 5 percent of whom will attend college. Dubbed Seeing Is Learning, this collaborative program could have profound implications for China's future.
